Building for Belonging is not simply asking donors to fund more beds. We are asking donors to help reimagine what it means to live well in long-term care.
Building for Belonging grows from the belief that Veterans and Seniors deserve an approach to care that is deeply human, evidence-informed, and grounded in dignity, joy, connection, and belonging.

What does my gift help build?
Your gift helps build a six-storey long-term care home made up of smaller households, connected to the Perley Health village, where residents experience the familiarity of home and the strength of community.
Building for Belonging will turn our philosophy of care into a new kind of long-term care home: Ontario’s first vertical neighbourhood for Seniors. This is not a stand-alone building. It is an extension of a community that already supports belonging.
The new building will create 120 new long-term care beds, but its impact will be felt across the broader Perley Health village.
This model is inspired by the smaller homes concept that has proven successful in delivering better quality of life in other countries. Now Perley Health will be the first to bring this vertical neighbourhood model to Ontario. And it’s a model that can be scaled to benefit Veterans and Seniors across the province.

15,000 Seniors are waiting for long-term care in Ottawa alone, and waitlists across Ontario are long. The 120 Seniors who will live in the new neighbourhood are the beginning of the impact, not the end.
Because Perley Health is both a care community and a learning organization, donor investment will help create a model that can influence care far beyond one building, one campus, or one generation. Reimagining Quality of Life in Long-Term Care

- Care with, not to—residents shape their own days. Residents are known, heard, and supported to shape daily life around what gives them meaning.
- An approach to care that helps attract and retain skilled healthcare professionals, while reinforcing Perley's reputation as a trusted leader in long-term care
- Veterans experience life as contributing members of a community, not as patients in a system.
Building Ontario’s First Vertical Neighbourhood for Seniors
- Small households: 20 residents enjoy their private rooms and bathrooms, sharing a kitchen, a living room, and a life.
- 120 residents will live in smaller, more familiar communities while remaining connected to the broader Perley Health village.
- Future opportunities may include spousal reunification and specialized support for first responders, pending government approval.
- Groundbreaking Fall 2027
